Apartment Hunting

I had planned on going apartment hunting on Wednesday & Thursday of this week that is now ending since I found out last week that my contract situation wouldn't be finalized until Friday, the day I planned on moving in to one of these places I had looked at.

Well, decision day, the day I find out for sure whether or not my agency has won the contract for the school they want to put me in, has been pushed back until Monday.   Grrrr...

I suppose that is one of the down sides to dealing with a public school; there's loads of red tape.  You can't fight city hall, so I'm just going to roll with it.  Mai pen rai, as they say here in Thailand.

Meanwhile, as I brought the camera to remind myself of which places I liked and didn't, I thought I'd make a video out of the two days of apartment hunting.  I thought I had ridden on every kind of public transportation in Bangkok, but I discovered a new one, the sonkiauw, which is essentially a pick-up truck with a canopy and seats installed in the bed.

Another, not so nice thing I discovered on both days, is that after being out on the streets all day, by late afternoon, my eyes started to hurt.  Irritated at the least.  That's big-city pollution for ya...

  3. I know I had a lot of hassles when I first landed here permanently 7 years ago ... but I can't remember them now! Don't worry ... there's a light at the end of the tunnel! :)

  4. In part I hope you are placed somewhere else, but then you would have to start all over again to learn about a new place. Eye drops can be helpful. Remember getting the red out?

  5. Cool adventure stuff! A special hi to Keekwai also...
How about deciding on an area that you like, is conveniently situated and then walk around the neighbourhood, checking for Rent signs, you may find cheaper and nicer that way.

  6. Dude, you are losing a ton of weight. Every video you post you look thinner and thinner.

  7. I hope you find a good home soon. Apartment hunting is never easy so just hang in there. Try asking for some help from your friends and relatives. Maybe they can recommend some good rentals for you.
